QINGDAO, China, Sept. 18, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) —
On Sept. 17, the 2026 Global Ocean Development Forum opened in Qingdao West Coast New Area, Shandong Province, China. Co-hosted by the People’s Government of Shandong Province and the Ministry of Natural Resources, and organized by Qingdao West Coast New Area, the forum is themed “From Blue to Future: Developing a Sustainable Ocean Economy, Building a Beautiful and Bountiful Ocean Together.” It featured an opening ceremony and main forum, an Ocean Civilization Dialogue, four parallel forums and eight special events.

The main forum included discussions on ocean economic development, scientific and technological innovation, AI-enabled innovation, and blue finance. It also saw the release of the Briefing on Global Ocean Economic Development 2026, the China Ocean Development Index Report 2026, and the Global Ocean Environmental Monitoring Multi-Source Fusion Dataset, as well as the launch of a global initiative for marine public welfare action under the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. The Ocean Civilization Dialogue highlighted achievements in marine culture, port development, ecological conservation, heritage preservation, and culture and tourism.
The four parallel sub-forums focused on marine industries, marine science and technology, deep-sea development, and ocean governance, with more than 50 innovative achievements and exemplary cases to be released and showcased.
Eight special events covered policy discussions, academic exchanges, industry collaboration, talent development, international training, and public science outreach.
Now in its third edition, the Global Ocean Development Forum has become a vital platform for deepening ocean cooperation, promoting marine economic growth, advancing marine scientific and technological innovation, and contributing to global ocean governance.
