Drop off any weekday in Tewksbury: no appointment, no minimum, no transport charge, 99 cents a pound, free notarized Certificate of Destruction in 24 hours.
ANDOVER, MA, UNITED STATES, November 4, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — My Document Shredding, the family-run shredding service at 1215 Main Street in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, today announced a drop-off shredding program that cuts the cost of secure document destruction for residents and small businesses across metro Boston, with Lowell, Andover, Newton, Waltham, Boston and Worcester as its core service area. Customers bring boxes or bags to the counter any weekday, with no appointment, and pay 99 cents a pound with no minimum weight, or a flat $15 per small box and $20 per banker’s box. Because the customer does the driving, there is no transport charge, no fuel charge and no contract, and the paper is cross-cut shredded the same business day. Every job ends with a free notarized Certificate of Destruction emailed within 24 hours. Questions and bookings go to (978) 636-0301.
The savings sit in one line item. An off-site pickup starts at $129.95 for transport before any shredding. Ten full banker’s boxes, about 350 pounds, picked up at ground level come to $511.35 or more; carried to the counter and paid at the flat box rate, the same boxes come to $234.90 with fees. Those fees, a $14.95 HIPAA filing fee for the notarized certificate and a $19.95 environmental fee for recycling, total $34.90 once per visit whatever the weight, so one consolidated trip beats several. A 100-pound load, the counter’s most common example, totals $133.90.
“A national chain once offered me a contract, a monthly minimum and a fuel surcharge to shred a few boxes. This counter exists to undo that,” said Hanson Webb, owner of My Document Shredding. “Residents and small offices should be able to shred when they want, pay for what the scale shows and leave with proof. The drop-off lane does that for 99 cents a pound.”
The counter at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, sits on Route 38 at the I-495 interchange: about 15 minutes from downtown Lowell, about 6 miles from Andover Center, 25 to 35 minutes from downtown Boston outside rush hour, and a straight run up I-290 and I-495 from Worcester. Parking is free, and staff meet the car in the drop-off lane with a cart. Staples, paper clips and file folders stay in; binders, plastic sleeves and media come out, with hard drives quoted per item. The load is weighed on the counter scale, moves into locked storage and goes through the cross-cut shredder the same business day, every step on a chain of custody log. All shredded paper is baled and recycled. Customers who want to watch book a witnessed session, $75 minimum, certificate signed in front of them.
The residential shredding service brings in old tax years, bank statements, explanation of benefits forms, canceled checks and estate files. Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 93I requires paper with personal information to be destroyed so it cannot be read or reconstructed, and a strip-cut home shredder does not always meet that bar. The advice: shred supporting tax records once the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) period has passed, generally three years, bring a year of paper in one trip, and pack banker’s boxes to the lid, since a full box weighs about 35 pounds and costs $20.
Small practices get the same counter price. The medical shredding program adds a free Business Associate Agreement, usually delivered the same day, and a notarized certificate for the compliance file. HIPAA-compliant shredding does not name a shred size; the Department of Health and Human Services asks that protected health information be rendered unreadable, indecipherable and impossible to reconstruct, and 45 CFR 164.310(d)(2)(i) requires a disposal policy for electronic records and media. A dental office or solo therapist can carry a year of expired charts in one trip; a busier clinic keeps a locked 95-gallon console, emptied weekly, bi-weekly or monthly from $150 per pickup with no long-term contract.
“The question I ask every small business is how long it takes to fill one console,” Webb said. “A month or less, and a console pays for itself. A few boxes a quarter, and the answer is to batch them and drive over.”
For Massachusetts businesses, 201 CMR 17.00 requires a written information security program that covers disposal, and Chapter 93I allows a civil fine of up to $100 per affected person, capped at $50,000 per instance. The dated, notarized certificate is how a landlord in Lowell, a CPA in Andover, a law office in Newton or a startup in Waltham shows an auditor the rule was followed. Loads too big for a car can still be picked up: locked bins, a GPS-tracked vehicle and shredding within 24 hours of arrival in Tewksbury, from $129.95 for ground-level pickups inside about 25 miles, which reaches Lowell, Andover, Waltham and Boston, with Newton and Worcester quoted up front.
The counter is open Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern, with no appointment for drop-off. After-hours witnessed sessions and pickups are by appointment at (978) 636-0301 or mydocumentshredding.com, where every price is printed. The company does not run free shredding events. Boston’s free Zero Waste Days, for example, take 10 boxes per resident, exclude business paper, run a few Saturday mornings a year and mention no certificate.
“Nobody should have to sign a three-year contract to get rid of a filing cabinet,” Webb said. “Bring it in, watch the scale, and get the certificate the next morning.”
