Best Cyclotron Systems Announces Successful Factory Acceptance Testing of 70-MeV High-Current Cyclotron for Delivery to Taiwan

Best Cyclotron Systems (BCS), a TeamBest Global (TBG) company with locations in Ottawa and Vancouver, Canada, and Knoxville, Tennessee, USA, is pleased to announce the successful completion in July of Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for the Best 70-MeV high-current proton cyclotron (B-70), a state-of-the-art accelerator designed, developed, and manufactured by TeamBest engineers and scientists in Canada.

The B-70 will be shipped to the National Atomic Research Institute (NARI) in Taoyuan City, Taiwan. Installation and project completion are expected in 2027.

TBG’s technology portfolio spans 6 MeV research cyclotrons with high proton current to high-energy 70 MeV multi-particle systems. The B-70 underscores Best’s continued commitment to advancing high-current proton and multi-particle alpha/deuteron/proton (adp) cyclotron technology and expanding access to accelerator-based radioisotope production and research capabilities. BCS is currently manufacturing 10+ cyclotrons of various energies for global customers while expanding facilities across North America, Europe, and India. BCS has manufactured and installed nearly 40 advanced medical cyclotrons and expects to produce more than ten cyclotrons annually beginning next year, contributing to production of radioisotopes for nuclear medicine and radiotherapy, as well as neutron production and fundamental particle research.

Recently, BCS celebrated the 16th anniversary of winning its first international tender for a high-current proton cyclotron for INFN in Italy in 2010. In 2016, BCS commissioned the B-70 cyclotron at INFN Legnaro, Italy. Building on that success, Best ABT developed the BG-95 and B-11 cyclotrons, optimized for on-site production of PET tracers, including F-18, N-13, C-11, and Ga-68—crucial for imaging in cardiology, oncology, and neurology. Their compact, shielded designs allow seamless installation adjacent to clinical imaging suites, improving workflow and expanding patient access to cutting-edge diagnostics. TBG’s cyclotrons are engineered for the safe, high-yield production of essential radioisotopes, including Technetium-99m—a cornerstone of nuclear imaging—as well as emerging isotopes that enable targeted cancer therapies.

BCS is also developing a 200 MeV variable-energy cyclotron proton therapy system for treating medical conditions such as pediatric, eye, head/neck, breast, lung, brain and pancreatic cancers, neurological/cardiovascular abnormalities and other medical ailments.

In addition, Best Particle Therapy, Inc. has designed the Ion Rapid Cycling Medical Synchrotron (iRCMS) for protons, carbon, and heavier ions, offering cancer patients exceptional treatment flexibility. In comparison to slow-cycling synchrotrons and cyclotrons, the iRCMS is faster, lighter, more accurate, and compatible with proton, carbon, simple, and future modalities.
